I’m a firm believer that social media is moving more visual. To test this theory I ended up creating an experimental Twitter account @StreetArtBuzz. I love graffiti and street art and thought this would be a good topic to experiment with. There are only two tools that I used in this experiment:
- Twibble.io – Feed pinterest boards to Twitter
- ManageFlitter – Find users that tweet about a certain subject, such as #streetart
For this account I started from scratch, 0 followers and 0 following. Within a couple weeks, I’ve grown the account organically to 4,000 engaged followers. Want to learn how I did it? Read this article!
First thing was first as I needed content. No one would follow someone that had no tweets, right? That’s where I used Twibble.io.
1) Find popular Pinterest boards
Do a search for your subject. For this example, I searched StreetArt. I then scrolled through and found popular pinterest boards in this subject. I was looking for one that had 1,000+ pins and was frequently updated.
Once you find one, copy the pinterest board url. For this one, I’m using: http://www.pinterest.com/gusjmacdonald/street-art/.
2) Create your feed in Twibble
Then log into Twibble and ‘Add New Feed’. Paste the URL into the RSS Feed URL. Then finish building your feed. I’d recommend always attaching the featured image, tweeting oldest items first and also add relevant hashtags. For street art I added #streetart #graffiti #design #art ..etc.
3) Create more feeds
Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have a couple good feeds going.
4) Monitor and remove underperforming feeds
You can then monitor your analytics to understand which feeds are getting the most engagement, which hashtags do better, what times to post, and what locations. It’s best to then turn off or remove the feeds that don’t do well and then edit and optimize your feeds to post at the best times and using the most popular hashtags.
It’s not recommended to only automate posts; however, it can be a nice supplement to your current content by providing the occasional relevant image. It’s a great way to help your social media efforts in a way you might not have thought possible!
